Seattle-Based Xeko Expands Distribution by over 500%

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) August 21, 2008 — With the environment among the hottest topics this year, the issue of endangered species has also come to the forefront. Indicative of the nation’s heightened interest, Xeko, an eco-adventure trading card game designed to teach kids about endangered species and the environment, has landed its first national retail distribution outlet and is now available at Barnes & Noble stores throughout the US.

Xeko’s games allow for children to learn about the plight of endangered species from across the globe, the habitats they live in, and the environmental threats to each. Instead of monsters and fantasy like other trading card games, Xeko takes its cues from nature and science, casting actual animal species as the heroes and basing game play on ecosystem relationships.

“This is a huge milestone–adding these stores increases our distribution by over 500%, and Xeko is now able to reach even more fans across the country,” says Amy Tucker, president and co-founder of Matter Group, creator of Xeko. “We know that to effect lasting, positive change for our planet, we must engage children, the next generation of eco-leaders.”

With the addition of Barnes & Noble to its roster of retail outlets including Whole Foods, Amazon, and a variety of specialty stores and zoos across the country, Xeko (MSRP $19.99 - $29.99) will be available at more than 1,400 retail outlets across the country. The company is also taking its business to a new level with other areas of operation; in the coming months Xeko will be launching a new online portal for the game as well as a line of eco-plush toys–called Xeko Pals–featuring various endangered species depicted in the game.

This summer also marks the release of Mission: China, Xeko’s fourth game collection, which coincides with the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. As with the previous award-winning sets, Xeko captures kids’ interest by combining two things they love: trading card games and animals. Every edition features remarkable plant and animal species from one of Earth’s 34 biodiversity hotspots. Conservation International, Xeko’s non-profit partner and the inspiration behind Xeko, receives 4% of net game and plush sales in support of its work to save the hotspots.

About Matter Group, LLC - Matter Group’s mission is to foster sustainability by creating and marketing world-class products and media that entertain and inspire people to make a difference. The company’s success is measured by their triple-bottom line: profitability, environmental impact, and social contribution. The Seattle-based company launched the Xeko game on Earth Day in 2006 and is currently working on projects to extend the Xeko entertainment property into television, film, and merchandise.
